USER INTERFACE DESIGN AND USABILITY TESTING
Designed and tested the user interface for a Web site that helps users diagnose and correct problems with their Internet PC configurations, email and web site connections. Reviewed competitive Web sites and compared pages on their organization, content, level of detail, navigational aids and their use of color, graphics. Results were incorporated into the design of revised Web site.
Evaluated a consumer kiosk with a multilingual touch-screen user interface. Conducted a usability test with Spanish and English speaking shoppers in a busy commercial environment. Results indicated design changes to wording, touch areas, navigation and printing.
Conducted needs finding research on scheduling, synchronizing and customizing for hand held devices. Results generated recommended functionality and user interface features such as automated tracking of events and automated alerts, keeping calendars, handling schedule conflicts, taking notes, etc.
Evaluated the usability of a B2B application that allowed customers and internal employees to access reports, account information and company data. Design changes were made to wording, formatting, navigation, directories, searching, and menu design.
Directed a series of user-centered design methods including customer interviews, competitive analysis, and usability testing for a customer relationship management (CRM) system that tracks real-time behavior and sets automated triggers for providing better customers incentives and customer support.
Conducted several rounds of usability testing of a consumer web site that connects buyers and sellers.
Evaluated the user interface of several search systems. Conducted interviews with users, ran usability tests, wrote a summary of recent research, tested conformity with graphical user interface platforms such as MS Windows and Macintosh. Results led to many product changes.
Applied user-centered design methods throughout the lifecycle of a new ultrasound system by conducting hospital site visits, videotaping exams for detailed task analysis, mediating design meetings, conducting several usability tests with increasingly sophisticated prototypes. Application of usability engineering led to very positive user and reviewer feedback on the product.
Consulted on data communications network management and control software development. Defined end-user requirements for network performance, planning, diagnostics and control, configuration management and financial management. Prepared a user model for network management and control.
Worked on a project team designing the next generation of air traffic controller workstations. Specifically, designed and documented air-to-ground and ground-to-ground communications interfaces using touch displays.
USER INTERFACE GUIDELINES DEVELOPMENT
Created style guides for several project teams so that applications would share a similar set of "look and feel" conventions. Collected and summarized information on users' characteristics and their tasks so that every designer would have knowledge about the products' usage in the field.
Developed design guidelines to voice-based user interfaces. Co-ordinated and managed a cross-disciplinary development team's feedback and evaluation of standards and guidelines for speech systems.
USABILITY CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING
Developed and conducted seminars on usability and user interface design. Customized courses for many products including accounting systems, software development tools, network and protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes and emulators, customer support data bases, color plotters etc.
